This list includes lifestyle habits and family history.<\/p>\n<p>A large study conducted in Sweden and published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology in 2014 found that five specific lifestyle factors, such as a healthy diet, regular exercise and quitting smoking, can reduce the risk of a heart attack by a combined 80 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers at Stockholm\u2019s Karolinska Institute wanted to discover what percentage of certain healthy habits, both individually and as a group, helped these people reduce their risk of heart attack.<\/p>\n<p>How was the study conducted?<br \/>\nFor the study, men aged 45 to 79 were enrolled in a study conducted in 1997. All were asked about daily activities, such as diet and information about their weight, family history of cardiovascular disease, and education.<\/p>\n<p>Over an 11-year period, 20,721 men with no history of heart disease, diabetes or cancer were closely monitored.<\/p>\n<p>The team found that five lifestyle habits contributed to heart attack prevention. Men who followed all five habits had the lowest risk, or an 80 percent reduction.<!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p>5 simple ways to reduce your risk of heart disease by 80 percent?<\/p>\n<p>According to the study, here are five habits that helped participants reduce their risk of heart attack:<\/p>\n<p>36 percent lower risk after quitting smoking<br \/>\nSmoking is a life-threatening habit and should be avoided.<\/p>\n<p>In this study, men who had never smoked or at least quit smoking about two decades before the study began had a 36 percent lower risk of heart attack.<\/p>\n<p>20 percent lower risk with a healthy diet<br \/>\nA healthy and mostly plant-based diet can reduce the risk of heart attack and other diseases such as cancer and diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>In the study, a healthy diet consisted of at least five servings of fresh fruit and vegetables a day, four servings of whole grains, one or more servings of low-fat dairy products and two servings of healthy fish a week.<\/p>\n<p>Even if participants ate foods that are not recommended, such as red and processed meats, the risk was still 20 percent lower.<\/p>\n<p>12 percent lower risk by reducing belly fa<\/p>\n<p>These delightful apple oatmeal cakes are a perfect blend of wholesome oats and sweet apples, making them an ideal snack or breakfast option.
